Carol Ann Morris
fly fishing and nature artist

Art inspired by Nature
Reflections on an artist's journey . . .
When we met in 1990, my husband, Skip Morris, had been fly fishing for almost thirty years. He'd also written his first book, The Custom Graphite Fly Rod, and was working on his second book, the immensely popular Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple. I co-owned a veterinary practice at the time, and met him when I treated his little gray cat named Midge. (For those of you not familiar with fly-fishing lingo, a "midge" is a tiny insect that lives and hatches in rivers, and trout consider them tasty.)
We started fishing together in 1991, married in 1992, and got our first book contract together in1995. He, the writer; me, the photographer and illustrator.
We've worked on about 14 of his books and 250 of his magazine articles together, still love what we do, can't imagine not doing what we do, and both whole-heartedly embrace sharing the deep joy we've found in fly fishing with anyone who wants to learn.
This unknown, twisting, turning, winding road I traveled with Skip, from way back in 1991 as a veterinarian until today as an artist, evolved into the deeply personal works you see on these pages. My professional creative path started with fly fishing, but has expanded over the years to include nature and her beauty; the natural world and this enchanting sport are deeply entwined.
So . . . grab a cup (or mug) of your best-and-most-tasty brew, get comfy in your favorite chair, join us on this ever unfolding Unknown Road, and a
big
Welcome
to our world. . .
